Packery Channel Open was called on for the weekend of October 24-25th!
With the remnants of Hurricane Patricia making their way into the Corpus area from Mexico bringing with it the threat of some flooding, along with a cold front pushing through on Sunday, the decision was made to hold the contest at the Seawall with staging at the Windward Parking lot north of the Holiday Inn. This proved to be the correct choice as the Gulf was offering up some head high and overhead sets on the outside bar.
With some very challenging conditions due to high winds in the 25-35mph range and gust in the 40’s and after a delay as squalls moved through in the early morning, the event kicked off with the first heat around 9:00!

Vigilance

As always, friends supporting each other.
In spite of some Victory at Sea conditions throughout the weekend, contestants found some beefy chest to head high and over nuggets out there to challenge themselves and each other.

Nathan Marney finding some shelter from the rain.

Stephen Lazenby
Even the Mico-groms found some smaller waves to charge on the inside!
And there were a few contestants taking flight.
Support from friends and family was present, as is always the case.

Brandon Elderkin and Bradly Blades showing true sportsmanship.
And everyone was keeping warm with lots of smiles.
Some highlights included Phoebe Rogers getting 1st in Micro-groms, Shane Wiggins and Aransas Blaha taking 1st in Mens and Womens respectively, Trevor Socha and Olive Smith binging home 1st in Mens and Women Longboard respectively, Brandin Stevens first in Air, and Shawn Cooksey bringing home the money in Open Shortboard! Maddie Garlow and Ian Appling both took first place in multiple divisions: Ian in Boys and Junior Longboard and Maddie in girls and Junior Women.
