Port Aransas Open ran the first weekend it was called, December 3-4, 2016. It was a wild weather weekend. Saturday was south south east winds most the day. Surf was pumping and there was plenty of fun clean waves to be had. Temp was cold and windy. Water was warm. Wide range of full to spring suits being worn and all were stoked on the surf. Everyone was thankful for whoever brought wood for a fire, and the best part about a fire, it brings everyone together! Sunday got COLD! Northerly came through and light rain the majority of the day. Surf was still up but with the wind it made for a bit of a challenge. Full suits were worn in full fashion, water however was still a decent temperature. It was the blistering wind that everyone again thankful for the fire pit again. Even with big surf and strong winds we had groms stoked and paddling hard to the outside. These kids sure are stepping it up a notch and showing how strong they can be. Thank you to all our competitors for bringing the stoke no matter what the conditions. Special thanks to our judges, Kay Blaha, Yvonne Brooks, Michelle Blades-Leal, Scott Ellwood, and Rob Henson Surf Shots for going above and beyond.
The Awards were held at Macdaddy’s Family Kitchen. It was the perfect location and great food! Go check them out when you are in Port Aransas!
