Texas Gulf Surfing Association closed out the 2016/2017 season with the Texas State Surfing Championships on May 20th and 21st at Bob Hall Pier in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Surf was solid waist to chest high on Saturday with workable sections on the inside bar and Sunday was slightly smaller but still workable and with sections that held up until the end of the competition.  This year’s contest crowned new champions in both individual and team divisions and showcased many of the young up and coming competitors along with our long-time members and competitors.

The Reaction says it all!

The Spirit of Surfing Award was re-introduced at this year’s TSSC.  This award is presented annually to an individual that exemplifies the characteristics to promote surfing in Texas, encourages others within the sport, actively participates in TGSA as a competitor or active member within the organization, and is a driving force for surfing in Texas.  This annual award is chosen through a nomination and voting process that is carried out by past recipients of the award.   This year’s recipient was Bronson Hilliard.  Bronson is a long-time competitor and is currently an active board member of TGSA.  With years of experience and a never ending support of the Texas surfing community, Bronson is a well deserving recipient and the TGSA family congratulates you.

The TGSA Board would like to thank all of our members, competitors and families for your support throughout the year.  A big shout out to our contest sponsors who play an integral role in making TGSA events possible.  This include: Third Coast  Beach Co. (Packery Channel Open); Southern Spears Surf Shop (Galveston Open); MyFunPortAransas.com and Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce (Port Aransas Open); Bingo’s Surf Shop, Sparkling Clear Industries, and Thermal Polymer Systems, LC (Surfside Open); and South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (South Padre Island Open).  Lastly but certainly not the least, a big THANK YOU to Scott Ellwood, GScott Imaging, and Rob Henson, Rob Henson’s Surf Shots, for capturing the lasting images through out the year.  Your efforts allow the season and individual memories to live on forever.

The TGSA Board looks forward to the 2017/2018 Season and we will have the season schedule and other details available in the near future.  Have a great summer!
