JOHN OLVEY SCHOLARSHIP
The John Olvey Scholarship was established to honor John’s desire to encourage young surfers to achieve their professional dreams and contribute to the community while continuing to surf as he himself did. Administered by Texas Gulf Surfing Association (TGSA), the goal of the Scholarship is to identify and help a student who represents John’s positivity and has a desire to carry on the legacy of John’s lifelong contribution to the local community.

John Olvey 1955-2022
John Olvey was an award-winning surfer, surf artist, and philanthropist.
During his art career John created several well-known pieces inspired by his surfing experiences including Dunes Danceland, Endless Packery, Fins Up, and Surfside — as well as many other popular pieces that captured the heart and soul of surfing and coastal living.
John was one of the early lifestyle surfers who embodied the original surf dream — picking up the sport in early childhood in the 1960’s and surfing throughout his life even to his last day.
John’s art remains as an artifact from the first generation of surfers, continuing to keep alive the memory of the golden years of surfing.
