SUPPORTING TEXAS SURFERS
TGSA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is the member-based governing body for amateur surfing in Texas. It was founded in 1988 to promote, preserve, and protect the sport of surfing along the Texas coast.
The TGSA has the longest-running tenure of any amateur surfing organization in the state.
The TGSA is a family-oriented organization that specializes in healthy and fun grassroots surfing events while still emphasizing academic excellence, good sportsmanship, and environmental awareness. The TGSA also prioritizes increasing the Texas talent pool and the progression of Texas surfing through its different competitive levels and its support of an All-Star Team.

The TGSA's Board of Directors undergoes a biennial election process, except for the appointment of Head Judges by the Board. As we approach the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season, the current board's two-year term will come to an end. Consequently, a new ballot will be distributed to allow members to cast their votes for the 2024/2025 board members. If you have an interest in contributing to the leadership of TGSA, we welcome you to add your name to the ballot. Additionally, if you're keen on serving either on the Board of Directors or as a non-board volunteer, please don't hesitate to reach out to us via email at surftgsa@gmail.com. JOHN OLVEY SCHOLARSHIP
John Olvey was an award-winning and widely-recognized Texas surfer and artist who made it known he wanted a scholarship established in his name for a local surfer. The John Olvey Scholarship was established to honor John’s desire to encourage young surfers to achieve their professional dreams and contribute to the community while continuing to surf as he himself did. Administered by Texas Gulf Surfing Association (TGSA), the goal of the Scholarship is to identify and help a student who represents John’s positivity and has a desire to carry on the legacy of John’s lifelong contribution to the local community.
The John Olvey Scholarship will be awarded in April 2025 at the John Olvey Texas State Surfing Championships. If you are interested in applying, please fill out the application and return it to yvonne.olvey@gmail.com
